What Is Age Discrimination?
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) makes it illegal for employers to fire, refuse to hire or otherwise discriminate based on an employee that are age 40 years or older.
Common examples of age discrimination:
- Not being hired because of your age
- Termination because of your age
- Not receiving a promotion
- Poor performance reviews that are linked to your age
Many examples of age discrimination are not isolated incidents. Many times age discrimination will be tied to other events like policy changes and budget cuts where the older employees are directly or indirectly targeted.
